Freeware Antivirus Software

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Avira Antivir Personal Edition is becoming more and more popular and is being recommended by either corporate or home users. This is because aside from being absolutely free for download and personal use, Avira Antivir is also powerful and functional enough to go toe to toe with expensive commercial pc security suites. Avira is also fast and easy to install; when it comes to installing the program, the computer does not need to be restarted and you do not need to put in so much personal information.

The main features of the Avira AntiVir Personal Edition are listed below in brief:

1. Real-time protection: This means that when there is an incoming threat the program will immediately deal with it and notify you about it. Upon notification, you will have the option to block, quarantine or even allow the process. You an also configure Avira to make the choice automatically for you. The software effectively guards the computer against computer viruses, worms and Trojan horses.

2. On-demand Scanner: It lets you scan a file before opening it especially when it comes to compressed files. All you need to do is right-click on the file then choose the option to scan the file. This is very effective against hidden Trojans or viruses that are put inside compressed archives and set to run upon extraction.

3. Auto-Updater: This feature will immediately check for updates applicable to the software using a predetermined schedule. It will also notify the user abou

t the new updates. The updates help in protecting the computer from newly discovered threats. It has been said that there are several updates for VDF files in a day to make sure that the application detects all possible threats at the soonest possible time.

4. Quarantine for detected viruses and malicious files: If there are viruses or malicious files that were not removed or cleaned it will be placed in a quarantine area. If there are already updates that will allow Avira to heal or clean the file then it will perform the necessary removal or cleaning. Quarantined files are also recorded into the database to help gather more information about unknown threats, which allow Avira to safeguard against them in the future.

5. Scheduler: The user can set the time when the software will perform the scan automatically. This is very helpful for people who leave the computer on all the time and have no time to manually perform a system scan regularly

6. Email Scanner: The software will be able to scan opened emails and emails attachments, which is one of the main avenues for Trojan, virus and spyware infections. You don’t have to worry about receiving attachments anymore because Avira will protect you from malware masquerading as zipfiles, scripts and even executables.

By definition, a virus is a computer program that is able to copy itself and infect other computers. The first one, according to Wikipedia, was seen almost half a century ago. The Creeper virus was detected in ARPANET, a predecessor of the World Wide Web. This code is compared to their virus dictionaries and if a match is found, the antivirus program attempts to clean the suspicious part, without damaging the original data. Another method of fighting viruses is to monitor computer activity, also known as heuristic analysis. It was using the modem connection to replicate on other PCs and when it achieved its goal, it displayed the following message IM THE CREEPER: CATCH ME IF YOU CAN. Anti virus software is another kind of computer programs that appeared because of the need to disinfect computers from viruses. Reaper was the first of its kind and its aim was the Creeper virus. You can visit Some people said that they might have shared the same creator, but this was never proved.

Since the first antivirus program, viruses and methods to fight them evolved rapidly. Most of the times, the next step in evolution is done by computer viruses and antivirus creators struggle to fight back and invent new ways to clean those pesky bugs. The common approach of antivirus software is to scan files, memory or registries from your computer and detect malicious code. This code is compared to their virus dictionaries and if a match is found, the antivirus program attempts to clean the suspicious part, without damaging the original data. Another method of fighting viruses is to monitor computer activity, also known as heuristic analysis. This includes monitoring memory and ports traffic for any signs of infection. A modern approach is the so called sandbox method. It involves running the suspicious file into a simulated operating system and analyzing the results. No matter the method, if a virus is found, the antivirus first attempts to disinfect the file. If its unsuccessful, or go to the infected file is quarantined (isolated from other programs) or in worst case, deleted.

Its very important to have a reliable antivirus program installed because there can be viruses on a file you download, inside an email attachment or even a website can include some malicious code to infect your PC. Some of the programs that are out there and can do the task are free, but most of them require payment. AVG AntiVirus Free, BitDefender Free, Comodo AntiVirus and PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition are only a couple of the free antivirus programs available on the Internet.

Many so-called experts on the subject will post various tips and advise on multiple forums and Blogs about the system registry and the use of registry cleaners. Some of them also advise against the use of any form of registry cleaner though they will, in the same article, admit that the registry continues to bloat with useless information that may slow down the system in the long run. Their ‘long run’ is about three months. So then, how do we remover this redundant information or useless entries from the registry to de-bloat it and make it faster and more responsive to the programs installed to run on the system?

The Best Way To Clean The Registry

The answer to this problem is to either use software that can run through the system and clean out any link or file that leads to nowhere or else manually dive into the registry and grope around in the dark without doing anything but damage to the system. Even the experts advise against this because even the so-called gurus of Windows operating system cannot shuffle through the system registry and know exactly what they are doing in there. It will always be a trial and error system.

The registry cleaners such as express registry cleaner, Win registry cleaner, PC Mantra’s registry cleaner and many more registry cleaner are special programs that are designed to scan the registry entry for entry and test the links to see if they are actually connect to some program in other parts of the registry and the system. If the links or files fail to produce a link to another program or file they are obviously loose ends and need to be removed from the registry. Because the registries scan will unnecessarily stop, if even for a millionth of a second at these broken links, will delay the process. Just add this one delay, no matter how short, to the hundreds of thousands of useless entries it will encounter, every time it scans the registry, which may be several times a minute.

Where Does This Junk Come From?

These broken links come from programs and viruses that are removed by the uninstall programs and anti virus software. This process of removal leaves traces of the program in the registry and has to be expertly removed with registry cleaners. It is not necessary to scan the registry every second day, however, the registry must be cleaned at least every six months or so. If the registry cleaners are absolutely safe then why will they have a registry backup program built in? There is always a risk involved. Perhaps that is the reason even the best programs have a backup function – Such as any Windows Operating system.

Do not Let Virus Response Lab 2009 Take Advantage of You

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

When you encounter Virus Response Lab 2009, you may be tempted to follow their lead.  This program will scare you into believing that you have malicious software, otherwise known as malware.  Please know that you will notice if you have malware on your computer.  Just one piece of malware on your hard drive will cause your computer to run incredibly slow, and may even flood you with pop-up ads or change your home page on you.  However, Virus Response Lab 2009 and other rogue anti-spyware programs like it will scare you into believing that you could have malware hiding on your computer without your knowledge.

Virus Response Lab 2009 will often get downloaded onto your computer without your knowledge when you download a video codec.  Video codecs are usually needed to play online movies; however, they often come with some malware as well.  Virus Response Lab 2009 is the malware, and it will slow down your computer and attempt to get your credit card information.  Once you get a security pop-up from this nasty little program, it has already found its way onto your computer from your other download.

The pop-up will warn you that you need to scan for malware.  It will then give you a list of so many files that they claim are dangerous to your computer.  These files, however, will simply be a list of your temporary files that are not corrupted and are not harmful at all.  Instead, the list of files that Virus Response Lab 2009 claims are dangerous to your computer are just a way to scare you into purchasing the full version of the program for a fee in order to remove the bad files.  Because Virus Response Lab 2009 cannot effectively scan or remove any types of programs, this is just how they can get their hands on your money.
BOSS Virus Scan Prank

Whether you purchase their program or not, you will still have the Virus Response Lab 2009 malware on your hard drive.  This is dangerous because it can record your key strokes to take your credit card information and anything else that may make them more money.  Even if you do not have this information stored on your computer, because they can record what you type when filling in any online forms or e-mails, Virus Response Lab 2009 has access to this information.

Now that you have this malware, you need to remove it.  Unfortunately, you cannot just go through and delete the Virus Response Lab 2009 files.  This malware uses Trojan horses to hide in your system.  These Trojan horses use temporary files in order to hide and camouflage themselves within your operating system.  So, even if you think you have deleted all of the files, there may still be some left behind to wreak more havoc.

This is why you need to have an expert remove Virus Response Lab 2009 for you.  This is the only way to get rid of this malware for good.
